Cookies Policy
This Cookies Policy explains how the Internet and Mobile Association of India (‘IAMAI’, ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’) uses cookies and similar technologies on the Thinking Aloud platform (the ‘Platform’). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. Similar technologies such as local storage and session storage work in much the same way. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your choices, and to provide information to the site’s owners. Cookies set by the site you are visiting are called “first-party” cookies; cookies set by another domain are “third-party” cookies.
2. How we use cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Platform working (strictly necessary) and, only with your consent, to understand how the Platform is used (analytics) and to show embedded media such as videos (media). We do not use cookies for advertising.
3. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These are essential for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take, such as signing in or navigating between pages. They include:
- Authentication— a token stored in your browser to keep you signed in.
- Session helpers— temporary values used to return you to the right page after logging in, verifying your email, or submitting content.
- Your preferences— settings such as your selected reading interests and your cookie consent choice itself.
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to collect aggregated, statistical information about how visitors use the Platform — for example, which articles are read and how people move through the site. This helps us improve our content and experience. No analytics cookies are placed until you allow them.
- Provider: Google (Google Analytics 4).
- Typical cookies:
_ga,_ga_<container-id>. - Purpose: distinguish unique visitors and measure usage.
Media & embedded content
With your consent, we embed third-party media such as YouTube videos. When a video loads, the provider may set its own cookies. Until you allow this category, embedded videos are replaced with a placeholder and no media cookies are set. When you do enable media, we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) to limit the cookies set until you actually play a video.
4. Third-party cookies
Some features rely on third parties that may set their own cookies when you use them:
- Google & Apple sign-in— when you choose to sign in with these services, they may set cookies on their own domains as part of authentication.
- Embedded media (e.g. YouTube)— covered by the “Media & embedded content” category above; cookies are only set once you enable media and load a video.
We do not control cookies set by third parties. Please refer to those providers’ own privacy and cookie policies for more information.
5. Managing your preferences
When you first visit the Platform we ask for your consent through a banner. You can accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or choose which categories to allow. You can change your choice at any time using the button below.
You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or remove cookies, but please note that some parts of the Platform may not work properly if strictly necessary cookies are disabled.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for operational, legal or regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we may ask for your consent again. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
