Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) made a submission to the Department of Telecommunications on its consultation paper titled 'Need for a new legal framework governing Telecommunication in India' on September1, 2022. In line with the government's stated goal of enabling a future-ready framework for the development of the telecommunication sector, IAMAI highlighted the need for a future-proof and competition-friendly Act that would ensure long-term regulatory certainty and resolve Right of Way issues. In its submission, IAMAI also proposed a cost-sharing mechanism between TSPs and LEAs, Central Government oversight for internet shutdowns and provisions for proportionate penalties.

Submission on Online Consumer Reviews Standards
IAMAI made a submission to the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs on the 'Online Consumer Reviews - Principles and Requirements for their Collection, Moderation and Publication' document published by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The Standards contemplate certain compliance requirements for organisations which may either be onerous or impractical. These include providing notifications to suppliers whenever a safety issue is reported in a review, liaising with suppliers when such suppliers have engaged third parties to manage reviews, and implementing mechanisms to check that response to a review is provided by an authorised representative of the supplier. In its submission, IAMAI noted that many data privacy related aspects contained within the Standards overlapped with existing legislations like the IT and requested that existing reviews not be subject to the Standards. IAMAI suggested several changes to the Standards, particularly around the liabilities and responsibilities placed upon Review Administrators.
