IAMAI Submission on DEPA:
IAMAI made a submission to the Public Consultation on the Data Empowerment and Protection Architecture (DEPA) initiated by the Niti Aayog for public consultation. In its submission IAMAI stated that any such architecture going forward has to operate under the broader ambits of the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill presently under consideration by the parliament, and the recently announced Non-Personal Data Protection framework that is being developed upon. Therefore, any discussions of such a form of consent manager is perhaps premature till the exact outlines of the final PDP and the DPA evolve.

It also highlighted that while the DEPA is a good mechanism to reach end users and empower them, it should also be kept in mind that tech unaware users, or those with limited understanding, may be overtly vulnerable and DEPA risks widening the Digital Divide in India.
