IRCTC & mRupee Forge an Alliance


Collaborations and partnerships seem to be the right way forward in the digital payments industry. IRCTC and mRupee have partnered up to make the payment process hassle-free.

IRCTC has been India’s largest eCommerce company. A company that caters to more than 23 million passengers on a daily basis, IRCTC is always open for new implementations. In order to provide an auxiliary payment gateway, mRupee has entered into a partnership with IRCTC. The process will allow Indian Railway users to enjoy one-tap payments for the railway processes. The users would be able to pay for ticket bookings via mRupee wallet. Being a subsidiary of Tata Teleservices, mRupee has been largely successful in the digital payments market since its inception. On the other hand, IRCTC is also he subsidiary of Indian Railways. They manage the catering, ticket booking and tourism facets of the railways. In April 2015, IRCTC emerged to be the biggest eCommerce portal in India, registering a record-breaking 13 Lac ticket bookings in a day. The partnership with mRupee would enable IRCTC to handle this massive ticket flow with much more ease. On a regular basis, IRCTC caters to 4.5 to 5 Lac bookings daily. mRupee has also been very active in terms of partnerships and tie-ups. The digital payments player had recently tied up with SmartD, a lifestyle management platform. SmartD is based out of Chennai and it caters delicious and affordable food to customers in Chennai. mRupee had also announced a partnership with ICICI Bank a few months back. MMPL also launched the Open Loop prepaid, VISA powered, card in partnership with RBL Bank (Ratnakar Bank). By obtaining a PaySmart card, mRUPEE customers are able to withdraw money from VISA licensed ATMs and also pay for goods and services at all merchants that accept VISA Debit/Credit cards nationally.
