Thanks to increasing internet penetration, the smartphone market has become more competitive than ever. Trying to make a name for themselves in the Indian smartphone market, HSL Mobile has launched a budget smartphone, which they claim to be unbreakable even after breaking walnuts.
A news that hits the mobile market close on the heels of the Moto X launch, the new HSL Y501 can be a tough nut to break, literally. Termed as ‘HammerScreen’, the news HSL phone comes with a display that is tough enough to break walnuts. If you are looking for a smartphone that suits your ‘rough use’ persona, the Y501 definitely fits the bill. It features a 5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Mediatek processor which is paired with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on older Android 4.4.3 KitKat operating system and has a 2000 mAh battery, which claims to offer up-to 18 hours of talk time on 2G network. The HSL Y501 Plus comes with 8GB of internal storage, which can be further expandable up-to 32GB via a micro SD card. The device sports a 5-megapixel primary camera along with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. On the connectivity front, the handset offers Dual SIM, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS and Micro USB. The handset measures 145.5 x 73 x 9 mm and weighs 143 grams (with battery). The phone also supports 21 regional languages and also translates the phone book effortlessly from English to any of the 21 available languages. The dual-SIM phone has been priced at INR 3,999 which will be available in black and white color variants exclusively via Snapdeal. In addition to the “HammerScreen” claim, HSL offers 1 Year Touch Replacement Warranty. The company says it has already established more than 400 customer support centers in India. The company has roped in Preity Zinta as their brand ambassador and the Bollywood star would be actively involved in the promotional activities. Confirming the launch, HSL Mobile India’s Naresh Yadav, Director-Consumer Experience said, “We are very happy to introduce Y501 Plus in India, which is specifically designed and developed keeping Indian consumers’ need of a vernacular language solution & tougher screen at the center. Speaking about the company’s India market strategy, he said, “In India, we have chosen to serve our customers via e-commerce to be able to be effective and efficient while being extraordinarily affordable. We rely on word of mouth and customer advocacy.”
